…The three of them get out of the car and it drives away.

On catching sight of me the two boys, aged ten and seven, leave their smiling mother’s side and run toward me. Shouting “Daddy!” the younger boy wraps his arms around my legs.

I pry him from my person. I am not their father, they know who he is; he was driving the car.

What has their mother been telling them at home?
